Further NHS Cuts Mean These Items Will No Longer Be Available on Prescription

Common medications

As the government continues to drive down the cost of running the NHS, a review into prescribing is set to discourage GPs from routine prescribing of some products on NHS prescriptions, which means patients who wish to continue using them will now have to pay.

Among the targeted items are multi-vitamins “where no specific deficiency has been identified”, skin creams and emollients “that have a predominantly cosmetic action”, camouflage products, sunscreens and gluten-free products.

The changes will be implemented on a staggered basis with some products being phased out at the beginning of March and the others at the beginning of April.
